A Fall Capsule Wardrobe For The Modern Day Lady

Fall isn’t here yet, but it’s coming. And it’s gonna come hard if I have anything to do with it. I know we need to measure our excitement since not much is going to change in terms of being in isolation, but seasons changing is literally one of the only things we have to look forward to right now, so let’s look forward.

Like I said today on the ole IG, this post was supposed to be about all the things I’m excited about re: fall, including but not limited to fashion. However, when I started gathering up the fashion portion, I sort of blacked out from my excitement about layering and booties that, before I knew it, I had accidentally morphed this post into a mini fall capsule wardrobe piece. I’m not mad at it, though, and I don’t think you’ll be either.

Fall is indisputably the most exciting season for fashion. Layers on layers on layers create an endless creative landscape of every outfit you can dream of. Plus, sweaters, coats, and jackets were made to be repeated unlike so many one-off outfits and pieces we scoop during the summer with no intent to wear them a second time. As much as I love to shop, I have my staple basics that I always turn to for every season, and that list of basics happens to be a little more extensive for fall. So today, I’m sharing some staples I’ve had in my closet for years and always reach for come fall time. If you have a few of these, you’re well ahead of the game re: fall wardrobe!

JACKETS

Any fashion-forward lady woman should have the following in her fall capsule wardrobe: a denim jacket, a military-green jacket, a long-line cardigan, a suede moto jacket, a leather moto jacket, and a great black blazer. So with that, I give you my top picks for all six.

And the most incredible blazer I’ve ever owned from Argent. It’s pricey AF, but if you’re like me and have a short torso and can never figure out the right blazer for you, it’s perfection.

JEANS

Bikinis:Summer::Jeans:Fall, amirite? Bikinis and jeans are pretty much neck and neck in my fashion book in terms of being hard to buy. They really drive home that every body is unique and one size, even if it’s the same size, does not fit all. Nevertheless, these are the jeans I’ve had the most luck with and are currently hanging in my closet begging to see the light of a cool, crisp fall day.

SHOES

Booties, booties, booties, booties rocking everywhere. I have a thing for booties. I think we all do. I had so many at one point, I had to force myself to pare down and make several Sophie’s choices. This is the bulk of my fall shoe collection right here. A tan bootie, a black bootie, a casual brown bootie, and some fall shoes that aren’t booties but we love just as much.

Oh, and we can’t forget the most incredible Chloé knock-offs I’ve ever owned or seen in my life!

AND! AND! These Madewell sneakers they literally just rolled out only minutes ago. So many colors and patterns. So much cuteness. I can’t take it. AHHH!!!

TOPS

I’ve gotten really basic when it comes to any sort of t-shirt or shirt in general. I realized a few years ago (mostly thanks to Fashion Jackson) that simple, straightforward basics can go a long way in terms of fashion. Solid color crewnecks, v-necks, button downs, etc. Stock up on a few high-quality ones, and you’re set to create outfits on outfits!

SWEATERS

TBH, I don’t have my sweater picks sorted out just yet. There’s surely going to be new ones added to my collection this fall, but this is where we’ll start—with the ones I own and can vouch for. Again, keeping it simple and straightforward allows you to not only hold onto these pieces season after season, but let’s your accessories and makeup speak!

LEISURE AND SUCH

For the days you don’t want to wear any of the above, have some of these staple EMMASTHING leisure pieces at-the-ready and on deck. You’ll thank me later (or never).

I feel like I barely skimmed the surface of what this post could be. Truly, it took me by surprise that my original post turned into this, so I went with it and probably have lots to learn from it.
