The Golden Girls’ Sephora Spring Savings Picks
About twice a year, Sephora graces us with a sales event. Now, it’d be cool if it was an event that was easy to understand, i.e. 20% off everything! 15% off everything! etc. However, these events have a lot of rules and tiers, so allow me to break it down for you super quickly:
The bottom line is that the more you spend, the more you save. There are three levels to being a Beauty Insider: Rogue, VIB, and just a good ole Beauty Insider. Rogue members buy a lot of shit from Sephora all the time, therefore they’re at the top of the chain and got to start shopping the sale Friday for 20%. VIB members are next in line, and they get to start shopping April 21 (this coming Tuesday) for 15% off. And lastly, we have the simpleton Beauty Insiders who can start shopping April 23 (Thursday) for 10% off.
Anyone can be a Beauty Insider—you just need to sign up right now (fast and free), and BOOM. You’re in. In order to make it to VIB level, you gotta spend $350 and for Rogue, $1000.
Got it? GOOD. Now, Allie has single-handedly made us a Rogue family by using Ellen’s account information for the past two years. HOT TIP: You can share an account with multiple friends and family if you just use the same login info! All that to say, I’m going to share what all three of the Golden women bought on Friday when this sale started just in case our separate by equal purchases pique your interest.
My sister is the beauty junkie in the family. Ellen and I tend to run a tight ship in our bathrooms and are down to experiment with a few new products here and there, but we mainly stick to what we know. Allie, on the other hand, is always looking for the next cool thing in beauty. Also, for what it’s worth, Allie has combination skin and it is not sensitive! She bought the most out of all of us, so let’s see what was in her cart.
1) GIVENCHY Le Rose Perfecto Liquid Balm
Allie loves a lip gloss, especially an expensive one. She got the sheer, high shine finish to add to her natural lip color and enhance it a bit more.
2) GUCCI Éclat De Beauté Effet Lumière — All Over Face & Lip Gloss
This is a multi-use gel gloss that you can use on your cheeks, eyelids, lips—really anywhere on your face to give it an instant dewy, illuminated look. Allie got it to use as a highlighter and maybe even give it a go on her eyelids for a sexy/sweaty effect.
3) LAURA MERCIER Caviar Stick Eye Shadow
Wow, well. I want this? Literally gonna purchase it after I publish this blog post. Anyway, Allie read this article about Zoom-ready makeup, and this eye shadow stick was mentioned. Supposedly, you place a bit in the inside corner of your eyes and it brightens you up instantly! She went for the Rose Gold color (2nd option in). Not sure which I’ll pick…
4) BIOSSANCE Squalane + Tea Tree Balancing Oil
Biossance is a clean beauty line that gets rave reviews. Allie happened to see some of those reviews and decided to order their face oil and see what happens.
5) BIOSSANCE Squalane + Hyaluronic Toning Mist
And because she’s such a sucker for face product, she also purchased their toning mist. I’m excited to hear what she thinks of both, truly!
6) KÉRASTASE Nutritive Blow-Dry Primer for Dry Hair
Allie got a Brazilian blowout or some sort of intense hair treatment years ago that made her gorgeous curls forever straight (can you tell I’m upset about it?), so she’s also a hair product junkie. She swears by Kérastase and this product specifically when it comes to blow-drying her once curly but now straight locks.
This brand is new to Sephora and another clean beauty line! We love a multi-stick in this family (my favorite is by Nars, but that’s neither here nor there), so Allie couldn’t resist this one. Avocado oil, orange peel wax, and shea butter are the three standout ingredients in this stick. Allie got the “Cheek to Cheek” color and plans to use it as a go-to for a quick sun-kissed look this summer on her lips and cheeks.
8) ARMANI BEAUTY High Precision Retouch
Believe it or not, the beauty queen herself doesn’t own a concealer. Since quarantine, she’s noticed her under eyes seem a bit duller, so she bought this Armani high precision retouch to see if it does the trick! We’ll all anxiously await her review.
Y’all know me. Still same old G. Not really, though. I didn’t go as apeshit as Allie, but nevertheless, I’m very excited and happy with what I grabbed. Also, I will be buying more after writing my own blog post because that’s just the way the world works. My skin is on the dry side and EXTREMELY SENSITIVE. Thusly, I am always incredibly gun shy about new face or skincare products. However! I got some things, and here they are.
1) PLAYA New Day Mist 3-in-1 Styler Refresh
I saw MAED post about this stuff, so I had to add it to my cart (i.e. if you’re on the hunt for an entire clean beauty list, check them out). This isn’t a dry shampoo, but rather a general refresh product. Daily (or even weekly) shampoos are not a thing for curly-haired girls (or most girls anymore), so I’m very excited to try this on my days-old curls and see what happens. I have a feeling it smells amazing.
2) NARS Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil Duo
I am new to loving lip liner, but BOY DO I LOVE IT. It’s amazing the difference it makes when used correctly. That said, these Velvet Matte lip pencil by NARS get rave reviews, so I went for the duo set with the scarlet red and the dusty rose (perfect for my reds and for my more neutral pinks!). Cannot wait to report back!
3) PAT MCGRATH LABS Skin Fetish Highlighter & Balm Duo
My sister has this highlighter, and I’ve been waiting to buy some for myself. This sales event is the perfect opportunity, so I did it! We have it in the nude color, and believe me when I say it’s the most incredible highlighter. Super easy application that leaves you with a perfect amount of shine in all the right places.
4) CHARLOTTE TILBURY Magic Away Concealer
I absolutely love this stuff and have completely run out of it. Therefore, it went into my cart. I’ve been using No. 4 but realized it’s much too light for my skin tone, especially as we’re heading into summer so this time, I opted for No. 5! I use it under my eyes and on any pimples that are ruining my life at the moment.
5) THE INKEY LIST Caffeine Eye Cream
When I was younger, all eye cream used to upset my eyes. I think my skin was just too young and fragile. Now, though, I have no issues with it and I’m hoping that remains the truth with this new The Inkey List caffeine eye cream I ordered! I got curious and navigated to the skin care by age category on Sephora and found this stuff under the 30s section. Definitely a plus that it’s clean beauty!
The fact that Ellen only bought candles is so Ellen and so perfect. However, the scents she scored are truly fantastic. Ellen knows her way around a candle, so I always trust her recommendations. Plus, NEST is known for their gorgeous, high-quality candles.
1) NEST NEW YORK Pumpkin Chai Candle
Ellen’s favorite season is fall and her favorite holiday is Halloween, so you better believe she’s done her research when it comes to pumpkin-scented everything. If she says this is the best pumpkin candle, IT IS. She loves it because it’s not cloyingly sweet like a Pumpkin Cupcake scent from Bath and Body Works or some shit.
2) NEST NEW YORK Rose Noir & Oud Classic Candle
Fashion Jackson made Ellen fall in love with this particular NEST scent and, truly, it sounds incredible and is 100% going into my cart this evening. The fact that is has patchouli and incense notes in it automatically makes it a winner in my book of smells (I don’t have one, but a girl can dream).
3) NEST NEW YORK Rose Noir & Oud Reed Diffuser
In fact, Ellen loves it so much, she double-downed and got the reed diffuser, too! Unheard of for Ellen Golden, so that means this smell absolutely fucks (I like saying that because my sister hates when I say it).
That’s the Sephora Spring Savings Event as told by the Golden girls! I hope you enjoyed and are inspired to treat yourself to one or two things—we’re in a global pandemic, after all. We could all use some skincare, makeup, and scents to bolster our moods.
xox,
