My Favorite Bras For Large-Chested Ladies
I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with my chest. I started developing pretty early—I remember wearing a training bra in third grade. I come from a long line of large chests, so I was well prepared for witnessing my boobs grow rapidly over the years. The thing is, though, no one ever really knows I have bigger boobs because I rarely showcase them. In fact, a lot of guys I would date over the years would be legitimately taken aback by my “surprise boobs.” I’ve never been drawn toward tighter tops or other clothing that makes them the main star; every now and again I’ll get a wild hair and want to have a girl’s night out so to speak, but they’re rare.
Anyhow, the reason I’m sharing this post today is to speak directly to the woes of finding good and COMFORTABLE bras as a large-chested woman. What is the most comfortable bra for big breasts? Can you wear bralettes when you have larger boobs? Why is underwire the devil’s invention?
Probably when the pandemic hit and maybe before that, I abandoned my big girl bras and almost exclusively started bralettes. I couldn’t deal with the wires, the molded cups, the 3,000 rows of hooks. Nothing was comfortable except flimsy, unsupportive bralettes so that’s what I wore. Lately, though, I’ve been craving more support but the thought of putting any wire under or around my boobs made me wanna die. So I did the responsible thing—I went to Nordstrom’s lingerie section, got measured so I’m 100% sure of my current bra size (34DDD), told the lovely lady helping me that I was only interested in wireless bras, and she delivered.
So today, I’m sharing my currently favorite bras with you guys in hopes that you get inspired to get yourself fitted for your right bra size (over 70% of women wear the wrong size, it’s wild) and find some wireless yet gorgeously supportive bras that do your boobs right!
And, if you haven’t, check out the reel I made modeling each bra so you have an idea of how they sit!
wacoal's back & side smoothing wireless t-shirt bra
This is a full coverage bra that feels like butter and is actually quite attractive for such a supportive bra (big boob ladies know how ugly and homely some of the most supportive bras can get). The jacquard overlay offers just enough detail to make this bra elevated and intriguing. The wireless body is what dreams are made of; I’ve already worn this bra all day long and felt zero discomfort. I actually forgot I had a bra on at times! It’s just so soft and comfortable. I got the black and the rose dust.
chantelle lingerie C comfort wireless bra
Where the Wacoal has a bit more going on with the design and jacquard pattern overlay, this wireless Chantelle bra is as straightforward as they come. It has no special bells and whistles; it’s just a very well-made bra that truly feels like a second skin. It’s buttery soft, making it extremely comfortable to wear all day under a t-shirt, button-up or dress. The small gold pendant is a cute addition and the back straps do have a subtle bit of lace detail. I love the minimalist approach with this one and got it in the Ultra Nude-wu shade.
LIVELY Women's All Day Deep V No Wire Bra
If you’re looking for even more comfort at a very different price range, these Lively bras I stumbled upon at Target are wonderful. Again, they have NO wire and are made with an impossibly soft modal fabric on the cups. The cups and the wings have this really fun mesh detail to bring a little sexy intrigue to these otherwise casual bras. The best part about this bra is that you can make it a racerback if needed, and we love a 2-in-1. I ended up getting a black and nude because my Wacoal and Chantelle bras are full coverage, and I realized I need some deep V options for those rare occasions I let the girls out. This Lively bra very much runs true to size!
auden by target's lace removable pad bralette
I thought my days of relying on bralettes were over, but then these showed up in the lingerie section of Target and made me stop and take a look. Two things make these otherwise, everyday lacy bralettes stand out to me, a large-chested woman: 1) The racerback straps provide serious support. 2) The removable pads actually help so much in terms of keeping your shape and holding you in. I usually hate padded anything (I don’t need it?), but this bra is different. I feel SO covered in the best way when I wear these Auden bralettes. Plus, the lace and semi-plunge make them very playful and a great choice to wear out on a date night. I got the white and the green (AKA “ivy”) in large!
