12 Recent Wardrobe Additions I'm Obsessed With
Wow. The last time I even attempted to write a blog post in the fashion section on here was October 5. I can see that because of a draft post I have entitled “September Top 10” that I left to die a slow death over the past two months. And honestly, that’s okay with me because Top 10 posts never do well for me.
If you’re a close follower of mine, you know a couple truths about me. One truth is that this year was the most expensive my bank account has ever endured. With all our trips, the wedding, the honeymoon… I have absolutely spent more than I’ve saved. Same goes for Zac, and we’re *supposed* to be on a tight budget because of it but, here’s my next truth: I love to shop. Some may diagnose me as being obsessed with it, and that would be fair. I come by it honestly; from a young age, Ellen instilled a love of shopping into her girls. Not for designer or luxury stuff, though. That wasn’t her style. She was/is always on the hunt for a bargain, and we would spend weekends at Target, GAP, and Old Navy. Nordstrom was the pinnacle of fancy for us, and any time we got to shop there, it was a treat.
Some years are for saving, and others are for spending, and I’ve finally made peace that 2022 was a year of spending and feel the need to end it strong. Most recently, I’ve been shopping for outfits for my cousin’s December 17 wedding and have stumbled upon some fabulous pieces in the process that I deemed necessary additions to my wardrobe, and those are what I’m sharing with you today!
VINCE. Double Breasted Wool Coat
I had a classy camel coat for a while, but must’ve given it away at some point because I opened my coat closet this season and was immediately like, “Why TF don’t I have a neutral colored coat in here?” Thus began my obsessive search for the perfect camel coat, which I found via this VINCE. number. However, I saw the price and my heart sank, knowing I would never invest that much in a wool coat especially because it rarely gets freezing in Dallas. As luck would have it, though, the entire VINCE. line was 30% off Thanksgiving weekend, so I ended up getting this coat for a much better price and am so happy I spent the money. The color is a rich toffee, and it’s an incredible double breasted wool coat that I will have for years to come! It runs large, so definitely size down. Their size chart is bullshit.
I haven’t owned a pair of “fancy” dark denim jeans in years and once I decided that I wanted a pair to wear to my cousin’s rehearsal dinner with a fun top, the search was on. I ordered several from Madewell, none of which flattered me and tried on a bunch at Nordstrom, all of which I hated. Then I came across this pair from MOTHER denim at Anthropologie, and the fit was perfection. They’re exactly what I wanted and were 25% off the day I found them (otherwise, I would not spend that kind of money on jeans). They are buttery soft, fit like a glove, the color is perfection, and the quiet flare is so flattering. I would say they run a little small, so size up if you can!
Madewell White Turtleneck Sweater
I was actually returning something to Madewell when I spotted this sweater from the register and ended up trying it on over my t-shirt. It is, in my opinion, the perfect white turtleneck sweater. It’s hard for me to find sweaters like this that don’t make me feel bigger or even more broad-shouldered than I am, and this one fit the bill. It’s a bit cropped, comes in a few different colors, and fits true to size! It’s also 40% off right now, so get on it.
These are the perfect holiday earring that add just the right amount of flare to your holiday outfit. I got them to wear either to the wedding itself or the rehearsal dinner, but will be wearing them whenever I possibly can because they are so fun and light as a feather!
Commando Faux Leather Leggings
I’ve been meaning to get a pair of these for YEARS, but never followed through. I had SPANX faux leather leggings for a long time but retired them a while ago without any plans to replace them. I just happened to spot them in Nordstrom while I was there, said fuck it, tried them on, and was like OHHHHH. I get it now. I get why these are so popular. The seamless design and control top are incredibly flattering on your butt/groin/waist areas, and they are insanely comfortable. I love that they can be dressed up for an event or date night, or worn a bit more casually to serve as the elevation to your look. I’m annoyed that I slept on them for so long. Size wise, they run like leggings do so order your typical legging size!
Pilcro Turtleneck Sweater Tank Top
This is the first turtleneck sweater tank top in my closet, and I love it. The way this piece is designed sits so prettily on your shoulders and neck and makes it a very flattering, feminine top. The neck is loose enough so you don’t feel suffocated, and it looks lovely french-tucked into high waisted jeans. It’s actually a contender for my rehearsal dinner outfit with the MOTHER jeans, but we’ll see! Either way, it’s a wonderful piece and comes in a few colors!
Lovers and Friends Green Wrap Top
This is the other rehearsal dinner contender, and I think it may be the winner especially since it’s a holiday wedding and it’s green. Wrap tops and dresses work well on me because of my chest and because they help to accentuate my waist, so I had a feeling this would be a home run and it is. I feel SO sexy, feminine, and put together in this top and will be wearing it for any occasion I can! 10 stars.
I have these jeans in the Deep Atlantic color, so when I saw they were on sale, I got the Clear Water color because I love these jeans so much. They just work on me and are what I reach for more often than not. I get the 26.5” inseam because I’m shorter (5’4”) and roll them up a little bit. They’re STILL on sale as I write this (typically $108, now $81), so now’s a good time to try them out. They are true to size, so order your normal jean size and you’ll be set!
On one of 15 recent visits to Anthro, this black bodysuit caught my eye and I’m glad it did because it ended up being the perfect simple, subtle, sexual bodysuit I didn’t even know I was looking for. It’s only design flaw (and it’s major) is it doesn’t have a snap closure, so if you have to use the restroom while wearing it, you will be ass naked in doing so. Other than that, though, it’s incredibly soft and the lace that covers the V-neck offers the perfect hint of cleavage without being in your face. It’s a fabulous date night piece with a blazer and the Everlane Cheeky jeans (pictured below!)
I tend to shy away from silk midi skirts because they always accentuate my stomach. However, this camel colored one hit different. The quality of the J.Crew silk midi skirts is fantastic, and because they’re pull-on, you can wear them as low or high as you want on your waist. I actually feel amazing in this and can’t wait to pair it with the aforementioned white chunky turtleneck, the turtleneck sweater, or even the bodysuit! This skirt will get a lot of mileage from me, no doubt and it’s on sale right now!
I didn’t know platform pumps were a thing until everyone online told me so, so I decided to buy into the resurgence. I found these Silent D Addie Ankle Strap Platform Heels at Anthro and immediately fell in love. They are SO comfortable and look so freaking fun! I just feel super girly and cool when I wear them. They are unfortunately totally sold out of the black at Anthro now, but I have found them via a few other random shoe sites: here, here, and these SUPER similar ones from ASOS!
Antonio Melani Plain Black Pumps
In looking for outfits for my cousin’s wedding, I realized I don’t have a pair of straightforward, plain black pumps. This doesn’t surprise me because I don’t wear heels often, but I decided I need a good, solid pair for event emergencies. Therefore, I ended up getting these ones by Antonio Melani because they are SO comfortable and have a 3.5” heel, which is the highest my feet will allow. They’re super easy to walk in and a great option if you’re also in the market for a plain black pump! True to size.
