5 Easy Fall Outfit Ideas
FULL DISCLOSURE: My PMDD is settling in for the next two weeks, and I am m-o-o-d-y. I just feel… blah, and I can’t seem to kick it. I have lots of freelance work to do, content to create, and happiness to relish in and yet all I want to do is nothing. I just want to sit on my couch under a blanket with Girlfriends on and a pumpkin candle lit and think about how lazy and lame I’m being for no good reason. Alas, we march onward.
One of the reasons I’m semi-down right now is because I MISS DOING STUFF, Y’ALL. I don’t think about it often, but when I do, it hits hard. Man and me have gotten a little looser with being out in public (as in going to a very tiny, all-outdoor brewery, spaced out from people and one patio lunch mid-week the other week), which is great but I miss seeing friends regularly. I miss events. I miss being out in the world without thinking about the 100 things that could go wrong. I know I’m not alone in this; 2020 is a dumpster fire of anxiety, depression, fear, confusion, hopelessness, and all other discouraging feelings, and it can be really hard to not get caught up in it mentally. But today, I decided to suck it up and have a little fashion show, fashion show, fashion show at lunch to boost my spirits.
I love fall. LOVE IT. It’s my favorite season, so the fact that I truly have nowhere to be in fall clothing is a travesty. I have outfits and ideas for outfits and not a damn place to wear them except to my back deck, so I hope you’ll indulge me. I put together five easy fall outfits I WOULD wear if I had somewhere to wear them, and they’re all made up of things I already own! I didn’t buy a single new piece to put these together, which is a beauty in and of itself.
LOOK 1: JEANS AND A SWEATER
What is fall for if not the jeans and a sweater combo all, every day? A solid pullover sweater with a great pair of denim topped off with fierce booties is one of the simplest looks to pull together that will always look effortless and cool every time. I love this green sweater I got from H&M last year. They have the best sweater, always. These jeans are the ultra high rise ankle jeans from Abercrombie and are fantastic, affordable denim. And the booties. Oh, the booties. These Marc Fishers were a Nordstrom Anniversary sale item of mine that I am truly devastated won’t see much of humanity this season, but I’m still so happy I got them.

LOOK 2: A MIDI SKIRT AND LONG SLEEVE TEE
Blessed be the fruit that is the midi skirt—the Goldilocks of skirts. I got this gorgeous olive green one from Beatnik here in Dallas, but they only have one size left as I write this. However, I found a super similar one from Abercrombie with a slit in it and everything! The long sleeve tee was a $10 buy from Target, and it’s such a great layering piece or stand alone tee. The boots I’ve had forever, and they’re Clarks (such an underrated shoe line), and my FUCCI headband comes in a 3-pack from Amazon and are fall’s best dirty hair accessory (IMO).

LOOK 3: FLANNEL AND LOAFERS
No idea why I struck a yoga pose for this outfit, but here we are. I love this look so much. It might be my favorite. It’s so layered! You can wear it without the jean jacket, with the jean jacket draped over your shoulders, or tie that sucker around your waist! My exact one was Urban Outfitters last year, but they have more of the same this year, so don’t fret. The jean jacket is the iconic jacket from GAP—I’ve had it for years upon years and never tire of the fit and wash. My black denim is none other than Madewell, and they fit so well. I love the raw hem and button fly. Oh and the loafers are Madewell, too! I got them last year and let the reviews about them being way too tight to wear scare me, but I ordered them a half size up and realized maybe people are dumb because they fit like a glove and are so comfortable? Who knows anymore.

LOOK 4: LEOPARD DRESS AND MOTO JACKET
Upon planning these lewks, I realized I have a few leopard dresses to choose from but this one was the winner for today. I was gifted (!!!!!!!) this incredible number from Abercrombie and love it a lot. It has so many little details that make it a standout and also super flattering: long sleeves, button front, ruffled hem, pockets, and a delicate back tie for an extra dose of femininity. The length is perfect for my short ass (5’4”), so I suggest getting a “tall” if you’re, well, tall. It also comes in a few other color patterns! The moto jacket is by BLANKNYC and the perfect fall layering piece I wear often and ON MAJOR SALE via Nordstrom rack, and the booties are Everlane’s Boss Boot. I’ve had them for years—they are truly perfect in every way.

LOOK 5: CARDIGAN AND SNEAKERS
This is the outfit I shot last and chose to wear the remainder of the day. It’s just the perfect daytime fall look. I’m glad cardigans as tops came back because it’s a cute look I can clearly get behind. Mine is from Abercrombie last year, but I’m linking Everlane’s version that’s even better. The jeans were another Nordstrom Anniversary sale grab that I am so happy about. To me, they’re incredibly comfortable and stretch throughout wear making them even MORE comfortable. And, of course, the sneakers are brand new from Madewell. There’s a heaviness to them that I quite enjoy. They feel very sturdy and supportive while being cute as hell (did I just describe myself?), and I highly recommend them!
