Quick Meat Sauce with Bison
There is no one who loves a bolognese more than me. However, making one is time-consuming which is not usually conducive to a weeknight meal. Last week, I wanted a quick and delicious red meat sauce to put on top of a bowl containing half zoodles, half spaghetti, so I went on the hunt for that. I found this super simple, VERY tasty recipe and swapped the ground beef for ground bison (leaner! Better for you!), and it was a delight.
INGREDIENTS
1 pound ground bison (90/10)
6 garlic cloves minced
28 ounces crushed tomatoes
28 ounces diced tomatoes
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt plus more to taste
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon basil
1/8 red pepper flakes
freshly ground black pepper to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
In a large dutch oven over medium heat, break up the meat. Cook until browned and no longer pink.
Add the garlic and sauté for 30 seconds or until fragrant.
Add in all tomatoes then stir in the spices and salt.
Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook on low for about 15 minutes or until the sauce is thickens, stirring intermittently.
Once finished, taste and adjust accordingly!
