Emma's Journals, vol. 1
A few weeks ago, while chilling at my parents house on a Saturday night (#27andsingle), we decided collectively as a group to watch a new Netflix diddy called "Mortified Nation." Upon reading the description, I was instantly a) shocked I had never heard of it before and b) into it.
Mortified Nation is a documentary about adults who share their most embarrassing, private childhood writings… in front of total strangers. The film blends performance footage of these public confessions with an examination of the rise of Mortified stage shows, and chronicles how the simple act of exposing one’s private past can inspire an entire nation to "share the shame."
Just brilliant, right? Total and complete genius right there. Dig up some of the most embarrassing shit you've ever written with your own hand, volunteer to read it in front of a group of people, and laugh at how ridiculous growing up can be.
So, naturally, I didn't leave my parents house that night without digging through the boxes wedged tightly into the darkest corners of my childhood closet to find journals upon diaries which showcase the absolute worst version of my young self. Ever. And, now, because why not, I'm going to begin short installments of said journals and diaries here on my blog. Whether or not I continue to out my horrid teenage self is entirely based upon how you guys react to it.
So, let's start here with my gay best guy friend and tumultuous on and off friendship with my best girlfriend, shall we? Enjoy installment one.
