Things I Can
What? What is this? She's saying "can" now? What happened to her not being able to on Tuesdays? Emily Schuman of the super fabulous, chic, girly blog (basically a carbon copy of mine), Cupcakes and Cashmere, does a series called "5 Things." Each post in the series includes (yep! you guessed it!) 5 things that she just loves right this second. So, in an effort to be more like other bloggers but remain true to the kingdom I have built here, I'm going to share some things as of late that I most definitely can and will continue to can.
Hands down, the best denim I've ever experienced. Found at Anthropologie, Pilcro is serious quality shit. The washes. The fits. It's all magical. Ladies, we know how impossible it can seem to find the perfect pair of jeans. You thought finding a good guy was hard? HA! Child's play compared to falling in love with denim. Pilcro is it. Last year, I bought two pairs of shorts from them. This past weekend, I finally invested in their super skinny, high-waisted numbers and I am in forever love. Completely worth the money and truly fit like a glove. They tuck it all in, suck it all up, and make you question what you've been doing your entire life with other brands.
I'm a sucker for a cheap sneaker, and these little doo-dads are where it's at. Forever21 gives us their $12 version of, say, a Ked or James Purcell for Converse. Simple, adorable, and comes in four colors for your choosing (black, white, red, navy). I snatched up a pair of black ones last week, and am super pleased. A bit of a tight squeeze at first, but once you wear them down, they'll give in (much like any parent or husband, AMIRIGHT?!). See them styled here with what fashion bloggers might refer to as a very low-end, casual Sunday look, consisting of mostly freebies or hand-me-downs:
For a long time, I was a snooty candle girl. If you didn't know that was a thing, it is. I would only buy candles of Volupsa quality. Sometimes (maybe, like, one time), I went as far to purchase a Lafco candle. But finally, I saw the dimly lit, romantic light of Bath and Body Works 3-wick candles. Not only are they almost always featuring a 2 for the price of 1 deal, but they fill up an entire home with their loveliness. More specifically, I've had Mahogany Teakwood on repeat for the last 4 months. It's a muskier scent made of (yes) mahogany, cedarwood, oak, and just a sprinkling of lavender and geranium. It's black market name is multiple orgasm. Newer to my favorite scents is the Renew & Refresh. It's the perfectly light, airy, clean smell you'd want in a bedroom or bathroom. In fact, "air" is one of its mentioned ingredients. So.
I'm not going to claim to be some jazz connoisseur, 'cause Lord knows I ain't. However, I do enjoy jazz. I listen to it when I'm writing or focusing and can't be distracted by the tempting and titillating lyrics of Miss Cyrus. Also, jazz reminds me of my parents taking my sister and I to more uppity restaurants when I was younger and feeling so mature and fancy, even though I was more than likely sporting braces and embarrassing, confusing hairdos. I highly recommend the Oscar Peterson radio station on Spotify if you have Spotify and if you like jazz. If neither ring true for you, well then... we have nothing further to discuss on this topic.
I saved this for last because the truth of the matter is that I haven't actually tried it yet ::insert wide-eyed emoji face here:: It's being shipped to my home right now, I swear! I just have a gut feeling it's gonna be fantastic. I came across an article the other week on Refinery29 wherein beauty bloggers wrote about their favorite secret products, and this was one. KO nail polish that goes on matte and is sold online only through Urban Outfitters. It comes in an array of colors (I ordered the bright pink, obvi) and is $14 a pop, but something tells me it's gonna be worth it.
So there you have it. My 5 things I totally can this week. Whudcha think?!
xox,
